TCG Market Indexes

Track each card market like a stock. Each index follows a game's most valuable cards and moves with them every day.

How the indexes work

Each index holds a game's most valuable single cards: 100 for the big games, 50 or 25 for smaller ones. Sealed products never count.

  • A card counts once, in its most expensive printing. It needs a card number and a live TCGplayer listing.
  • The cards are picked again on the first day of each month. The list then stays fixed for the month.
  • Each day we add up the TCGplayer market prices of the cards and compare the total with the same cards the day before. A card without a price on both days sits that day out.
  • A price that looks like a fake or one-off sale is left out that day. TruePrice, our own pricing check, spots them.
  • Every index starts at 1,000. At 1,100 its cards are worth 10% more than on the first day.

Why a total and not an average

The total is what one copy of each card is worth. When a price jumps and falls back, the index falls back with it. An average of daily percentages would creep up on every bounce.

Pokémon, Magic and most other games start in Feb 2024, the first month in our price history. Newer games start in the first month they had enough priced cards.
